Fans of _Celebs Go Dating,_we’ve got some good news for you: the show WILL be returning this year, but not as you know it. Loads of our favourite shows have been affected by the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, with soaps having to come up with creative solutions to dwindling episodes and Love Islandbeing cancelled all together.
And now CGD’s resident dating expert Anna Williamson has revealed that producers have pulled out all the stops to bring us the dating content we love to see – but in a virtual format.
The spin-off will be called Celebs Go Virtual Dating (clever) and will 'bring all the dating drama of its sister show, but with the added challenges of video vetting love matches and trying to find that spark on a socially distanced date.'
Anna said, 'We are really intrigued to see what dating looks like during this time, and looking forward to seeing how our date-ees handle dating in lockdown.'
And her colleague and fellow dating guru Paul Carrick-Brunson agreed, saying, 'I can’t wait to throw the agency doors "virtually" wide open. This series will be an exciting experiment to see how our celebs deal with dating as well as the added restrictions they wouldn’t normally have to navigate.'
You may recall that Anna actually hinted at the show back in April,when she gave an exclusive interview to Closer online via Instagram live. 'We are absolutely in talks for series nine, though no one ever knows, until we’ve signed that contract, no one knows [what’s happening]. Before lockdown, the wheels were in motions for kicking off series nine,' she said. 'Lots of people’s jobs have been furloughed or just gone, mine included. But all going well, I’d like to think we get another series to watch this year.'
