It's always a pleasure to see Catherine O'Hara. This evening, the Schitt's Creek star showed up on our screens as a virtual presenter of the Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards, presenting the winner of the Live Event prize. Many TV fans would have been thrilled to see the woman who depicted Rose family matriarch Moira Rose, as Schitt's Creek has become something of a global sensation. But those who haven't seen the show would undoubtedly have recognised the showbiz stalwart.
While many might know Catherine now for her part in the Canadian show, one of her most famous roles was starring as Kate McCallister, the mother of Kevin, in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. But she's had other high-profile roles, too.
In 1986, she also starred in romcom Heartburn with Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson. And she's appeared in several films directed by Tim Burton, beginning with the role of Delia Deetz in 1988's Beetlejuice, and she was also the voices of both Sally - the rag doll with a heart of gold - and Shock in 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas. And you might also recognise the actress from mockumentary films such as Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration. Best in Show is, undoubtedly, one of the greatest comedic performances she has ever given.
In her recent Golden Globe acceptance speech - can you believe it was her first? - Catherine, 66, thanked Eugene and Dan Levy for creating 'an inspiring, funny, beautiful family love story in which they let me wear 100 wigs and speak like an alien'. She continued, 'From the first read-through where no one had to fake a laugh, to the final day on set where everyone except me had to hold back the tears, it's an experience I will forever hold dear to my heart, and I'm proud to be part of their family.'
