We might all be turning to DIY in lockdown - including Cate Blanchett{
The two-time Oscar winner told former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard on podcast A Podcast of One’s Own that she took a 'little nick to the head'. Mentioning the accident in passing, she stressed that she was 'fine' - despite the scary incident. 'I'm fine,' she said. 'I had a bit of a chainsaw accident yesterday, which sounds very, very exciting, but it wasn't. Apart from the little nick to the head, I'm fine.'
And, just like we would do, Julia warned her to exercise caution in the future. 'Be very careful with that chainsaw,' she replied. 'You've got a very famous head, I don't think people would like to see any nicks taken out of it.'
Since relocating from Sydney, Cate now lives in a $6.25million mansion in East Sussex. And she’s been spending lockdown with her family, husband playwright and director Andrew Upton, with four children, Dashiell 18, Roman, 16, Ignatius, 12 and Edith, five.
Like millions of parents, Cate has had to turn to home-schooling, and has been teaching her youngest child Edith. ‘I have a huge respect for the teaching profession,’ she said. ‘I always have.’ The actress also revealed she planned to take a year off to help Dashiell through his A-levels - but, in hindsight, that now seems pretty pointless. ‘I took the year off ostensibly to be with him and support him through exam period,' she said. 'And then all of this exam stuff evaporated [because of school closures] and I’m left with an 18-year-old who doesn’t really want to have anything to do with me! So it’s a little bit discombobulating, but it’s a high-class problem, we’re all well.’
