Caroline Flack has jetted off to LA to rest up after being charged with assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton. The presenter is reportedly avoiding spending time in her Islington flat where the alleged incident took place, so has fled the country for some alone time.

A source told The Sun newspaper, ‘Caroline feels trapped in the UK. She can’t see or communicate with Lewis but she also doesn’t want to return to her flat because her every move is documented by photographers… So after spending the festive period with family and friends, she’s jetted to LA.’

Flack appeared in court last week and pleaded not guilty to common assault. Theformer Love Island presenterwas accused of hitting her partner with a lamp, which both parties have denied. Yet despite Lewis choosing not to press charges against Flack, the pair have been banned from direct and indirect contact.

Since the incident came to light, the star has chosen to step down as Love Island presenter for the upcoming winter series.

In a statement, she said, 'There have been a significant number of media reports and allegations in regard to my personal life.

'While matters were not as have been reported I am committed to cooperating with the appropriate authorities and I can’t comment further on these matters until the legal process is over.

‘However Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it’s the best show on telly. In order not to detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is stand down from Series 6.

‘I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town.’

Laura Whitmore will replace Flackas host on both the main show and Love Island Aftersun.

Flack will appear in court again on 4 March.
