Cara Delevingne has said it wasn’t until Rose McGowan accused Harvey Weinstein of rape that she felt compelled to share her own allegation against him.
Speaking to ELLE UK{
‘I hadn't thought about it for five years, not until Rose McGowan came out with hers,’ Delevingne said.
‘So, weirdly, it was therapeutic but I also hadn't dealt with it at all. I didn’t really know what assault was.’
The Paper Towns star added, ‘I hope [Weinstein] gets prosecuted and, of course, I want there to be justice. It turns out nearly every single woman I know or have worked with has been harassed or assaulted in some way. I just didn’t know about it.’
In October 2017, the model claimed she was subjected to unwanted sexual advances by the disgraced Hollywood producer, whom she alleges asked her to kiss another woman in a hotel room before he attempted to kiss Delevingne herself.
Despite more than 80 women coming forward to accuse Weinstein of various crimes including rape, sexual assault and harassment, he is only currently standing trial for two crimes; the rape of one female acquaintance and forced oral sex on another woman.
Weinstein has denied all allegations against him so far.
Speaking about the Time's Up movement, Delevingne added: ‘In my opinion, especially in these movements, as soon as we get a hashtag for something, we feel like it’s done.
‘But that’s not the case. It’s the beginning, and I think people need to remember that [gender discrimination is] still happening all the time.'
