Cara Delevingne has been trailing her involvement with South African horror-rap group Die Antwoord for a few weeks now via Instagram photos of her alongside male frontman, Ninja, but now the actual video for* Ugly Boy* is here and we get to see just how out-there the model has gone.
As far as Die Antwoord go, this is their most commercially viable video, but it’s still pretty gruesome, full of blood, a bit of gross-out blackface (come on, guys) and frontwoman Yolandi Vi$$er cosying up to all sorts of ugly boys who she loves (in case you’re in an office where you’re not allowed to watch gory videos without someone thinking you’re a weirdo, the song’s all about loving ugly boys).
As for Cara? Well, she’s in the video for a few moments, notably pulling Ninja’s trousers down (he’s not wearing underwear, obvs) and sticking her tongue out and generally being Cara at her zaniest, which isn’t something we normally get to see in her professional output. Other stars in the video include Dita Von Teese shimmying around with some nipple tassels on, her ex-husband Marilyn Manson walking around looking creepy, Emily Ratajowski (she’s the one with blood dripping from her mouth, we think, we’re not used to seeing her with her clothes on) and Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers (don’t know who they are? that’s totally fine) gadding about.
As this video ‘dropped’, Cara herself was busy popping up somewhere else, namely a Topshop launch in New York, but symbolically a huge moment; at the event, Cara and sister Poppy, the It girls of a new generation, met Paris and Nicky Hilton, the It girl sisters of yesteryear. We’re not saying we’re not interested in anything else that happened at the party, but just knowing that they met each other and had actual conversations – that’s kind of enough for us.
