Today, Cara Delevingne made the news for the not-so-shocking revelation that she prefers sex to going clubbing. The 26-year-old - who is currently dating Pretty Little Liars actress Ashley Benson - spoke candidly about her sex life on RuPaul's podcast What's The Tee? “I'm very good at giving love and not at receiving it. I'm the same in bed,” the supermodel told the drag icon. “I find it quite difficult to receive pleasure and love and things like that, so I love to give,” adding “I used to go to clubs but I'd rather have sex than go out now.” Papers were quick - as we wrote the other day about Geri Halliwell and Mel B’ssex ‘revelation’ - to produce features on the model’s ‘romps’ with women (and men.)
But what’s made Cara speak so openly now? Well, it might have a lot to do with the fact she was talking on a podcast. (And speaking to none other than drag icon RuPaul, who wouldn’t want to bare their soul!?) It’s increasingly common that the format being used by celebrities as a more honest way to connect with fans. Probably because podcasts are far less staged than TV or radio appearances, usually happening in just a room with a mircophone, and, as a result, it feels like we’re listening in on a secret chat between two celebrities (or sometimes a high-profile journalist and a star.)
It’s certainly not the first time an A-lister has made headlines from speaking on one, anyway. At the beginning of the year,Lily Allen told journalist Elizabeth Day that she had split from her rapper boyfriend Meridian Dan, revealing: “I’m single, for the first time since I was about 15.” Earlier this month, Louis Tomlinsontold The Sun’s Dan Wootton on his podcast how he fell out with Zayn Malik after he failed to show up to the X Factor with his other One Direction bandmates to watch an emotional performance following his mum’s death. Amazingly, in other 1D related news, last year, Cheryl said she she ‘couldn’t give a fuck’ about Liam Payne moving on with other women when speaking on Jessie Ware’s podcast, Table Manners. There are numerous other examples, but we could be here all day listing them.
So, the next time you want to really know what a celebrity is like, maybe just tune into a podcast. See some of the best examples, hosted by celebrities, below.
