Brooklyn Beckham And Nicola Peltz Are A Walking Teen Romance, Beanies And All

The pair were spotted making out at a skate park, like you did when you were 13.

So, there are some very cute pictures of Brooklyn Beckham and new girlfriend Nicola Peltz – so far, so normal. What I wasn’t expecting, of a Sunday morning, was to be plunged into a pit of nostalgia as deep as Avril Lavigne’s Complicated on repeat – because the pair are at a skate park. A skate park! Nicola (of Bates Motel, Transformers, etc), hanging off to the side and beaming; Brooklyn sliding all over Cool Ramps and, um, pipes. She’s even wearing Dickies trousers, which the real aficionados will remember with a mix of fondness and terror. What I’m saying is, I get it.

In the spirit of collective reminiscence about the last decade, there’s a particular kind of girl who will remember the weird obligatory ‘watching-boys-skate’ phase. It was hard to say why it needed to happen – though perhaps we can attribute much of its ubiquity to the adolescent awkwardness it negated. It’s pretty hard to hold a conversation with anyone at age circa 13, and luckily it’s also almost impossible to talk to someone when they’re doing sub-par kick flips and pretending not to look at you. Phew! The activity had an according uniform, which identified you as the kind of onlooker who made a habit of hanging out by ramps. It was largely black, and it included a) beanies b) eyeliner c) leather jackets (bloody cold, standing outside for hours). Brooklyn and Nicola have ticked a whole lot of those boxes – and while they’re not thirteen, he for one is only just south of teenage-dom at 20.

The shiny new couple were first linked after being seen leaving Leonardo DiCaprio’s Halloween party together, and then three times in a week last month. With the romance now well and truly confirmed, it’s important to say that the pair are a lot less nervous than I remember being – there’s lots of kissing and smiling, but that classic equation of boy-skating and girl-looking remains intact. Romance isn’t dead! She was an ACTRESS, he was a PHOTOGRAPHER (?), she said see ya later boy… as they walked to his car together, so that’s cute. Fingers crossed for minimum angst, and maximum Happy Endings.
