When it comes to their kids, superstar millionaires David and Victoria Beckham are intent on bestowing their uniquely-named offspring with the most normal lives.
Though Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper (yes, we know all of the Beckham's names by heart) have had a jetset lifestyle, and are by now pretty used to being followed around by paps, the ex-footballer and designer want to keep them grounded.
Not ‘Stay in the house until I forgive you for sneaking out to a park and coming home smelling of alcohol’ grounded, but really unstarry grounded. That’s why Brooklyn Beckham, the oldest of the pack, might have gone and got himself a Saturday job in a coffee shop in west London.
One of the staff confirmed to MailOnline that he’s worked a few shifts and ‘got on OK’ with the other staff. Earning just £2.68 an hour – there’s no minimum wage for children under 16 – it’s a far cry from Brooklyn’s recent stint of modelling for Man About Town magazine, which got him some very peculiar older admirers.
On the plus side, due to his tender age of 15, Brooklyn can only work seven hours a shift and must have an hour’s break after working for four hours.
Plus, it must be his decision to get the job because David has previously said that letting his children do what they want is important in keeping them normal. ‘My eldest now is at the age where he wants to do things and go to places, and we have to hold him back,’ he told CNN last year. ‘You have to explain to him that there are certain things that he can’t do. But to be honest, we let our children do 99 per cent of the things they want to do, because we want them to lead a normal life.’
He added that if there’s one thing the kids inherit, it won’t be their football, singing, dancing or modelling skills, but more their commitment to working hard – and you really can’t fault that; the couple are worth £165m!
‘We try to lead by example, by showing them it’s important to work hard. That’s one of the key things me and my wife have always done… We juggle everything around the family because our main priority is the children, simple as that, and it always will be, but being hardworking is the best thing you can show children.’
Anyone up for a flat white somewhere in west London? Not for pervy reasons, though. Just on the off-chance David pops in to pick up Brooklyn after a shift. Ahem.
