Tennis player Elena Baltacha, who was the British number one for almost three years, sadly lost her fight with cancer yesterday morning.

Baltacha was diagnosed with liver cancer in January 2014 only a few months after retiring and only weeks after marrying. She was first diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, a chronic liver condition which affects the immune system when she was just 19 years old.

Her agent and friend Eleanor Preston told Sky News: 'She achieved an awful lot and in the context of having a serious liver condition that she struggled with since the age of 19. This is why she should be held up as a role model.'

'Rally for Bally' is an initiative being organised as a Rally Against Cancer fundraising event in her memory to be held on the 15th June. Stars including Andy Murray, Tim Henman, Heather Watson and Jonny Marray are some of the many stars who will supporting the cause.
