The New Bridget Jones’ Baby Trailer Has Arrived

It's been nearly a year since it was confirmed that Bridget Jones would be returning to the big screen, and we finally have a full length trailer to watch over and over again...

It's been nearly 15 years since Bridge has graced our screens - her diary has been swapped for an iPad, she's chatting with her colleagues about Tinder, and she's wearing clothes by label-of-the-moment Shrimps.

While Hugh Grant's Daniel Cleaver is noted by his absence (Grant opted out of a return to the franchise) the trailer sees old favourites like Bridget's gang of pals and, of course, former flame Mark Darcy, joined by a new love interest in the form of Grey's Anatomy's Patrick Dempsey - and a wonderfully chipper gynaecologist played by Emma Thompson.

Yes, the trailer clearly indicates that, for whatever reason, Bridget and Mark Darcy didn't end up tying the knot. (It's like Carrie and Big all over again.)

We see Bridget 'starting' again, doing gym classes, attending Glastonbury, having a lark... until – WHAM! – she discovers she's pregnant.

Who is the father? Mark, or another 'new' chap on the scene?

Well, it remains to be seen. And until the flick hits our cinemas in the autumn, this is all we have to go on...

But wait, there's more...

Before the trailer, has come THE TEASER! And what a cheeky little promo it is. First we see Bridge crowd surfing, followed by a hilarious shot of her doing her signature whoopsie daisies fallover – this time in the mud of what appears to be Glastonbury.

Next, we see a loving glance from the 'Mr Bridget' (aka Mark Darcy), and then, a cheeky smirk from a new unidentified gentleman...

And to top it all off, we're left with a close-up of some familiar stomach-holding-in apparel...

Can you believe it's been 14 years since Bridget Jones' Diary hit cinema screens, closely followed by sequel* The Edge of Reason*? Despite the fact that if it was set in the here and now, Bridget would probably wouldn't be keeping a diary (she'd definitely be a dating blogger with all that material) and she'd probably be a new-wave feminist and have none of that skirt chat from Daniel Cleaver, she's still totally relevant. So the news of a third film, Bridget Jones's Baby, has us seriously buzzing.

The new film is a while off yet ('come onnnn, Bridgettt') but updates on the new movie are coming thick and fast. So here's your need to know so far...

1. The film now has a release date

We finally know when Bridget will return to our screens, as IMDB has listed a release date of 16 September 2016 for Bridget Jones's Baby. It might be nearly a year away, but we're circling and underlining this date in our calendars.

2. Bridget has great maternity style

Pictures of Renee Zellweger filming on set have been released, and the actress has been seen outside a Sainsbury's in Woolwich, South London. Bridget also has excellent maternity style - we're loving her fluffy coat, breton knit and Mulberry bag combo.

3. Bridget has an iPad.

Yep. In a picture released by Universal, Bridget Jones was pictured with an iPad rather than a diary. Clearly Bridget is moving with the times, but we kind of wish she was sticking to a pen and paper like old times. Next she'll be ordering an Aperol Spritz at the bar and gossiping about last week's episode of First Dates while struggling to master Snapchat, Whatsapp AND Instagram, simultaneously.

4. Patrick Dempsey, aka McDreamy, will star

The former Gray's Anatomy actor confirmed he joined the cast on Instagram, sharing a snap of him at Pinewood studios. And he could be playing Bridget's potential love interest!

"Nice to be working in England. Renee and Colin are an absolute joy to work with! A good couple of days rehearsing at Pinewood Studios. I really like it here!" Patrick wrote.

5. So yup – you guessed it: it's over with Mark Darcy

Colin Firth is returning to the film franchise to play Mark Darcy, and Renee Zellweger is of course back as Bridget - but Hugh Grant will NOT be returning for more of this:

6. The potential title of the film is...

The movie won't be based on most recent Helen Fielding novel Mad About The Boy, instead the storylines will be inspired by columns by the author from eight years ago. So it's working title is Bridget Jones's Baby. Hmm, not plot spoilers there, then.

7. Ed Sheeran will reportedly make an appearance...

As himself. Last time we saw Bridget Jones on screen in 2004 she mostly soundtracked her life to Madonna - that prison scene anyone? - but fast-forward to 2015 and it seems Ed Sheeran is Bridge's jam of choice.

The Mirror reports that a film crew for the movie were spotted shooting a scene at Ed's recent Croke Park concert, with a stunt double playing Bridget.

8. There are three potential endings in the works...

The team behind the film is so keen to avoid spoilers that they haven't even told the cast how the story ends. Renée Zellweger told the Sunday Express that 'None of the cast knows who fathered Bridget’s baby or who she’ll choose as her beau. The plan is to keep us all in the dark, right up to the premiere.'

9. Bridget might be heading to a festival...

It looks like Bridget might have achieved the impossible and grabbed some Glastonbury tickets. Renée has been spotted filming on the site of the annual festival in Somerset, wearing a pair of authentically muddy wellies and denim shorts. We wonder if she'll be glamping or slumming it in a rain-sodden tent...
