Christmas TV is looking a bit different this year - you can, if you wish, binge a whole series released on Christmas Day. (With Christmas changing for many this year, this really could be a good idea for 2020.) Going against all tradition, Netflix have decided to launch their latest period drama Bridgerton on the 25th. Based on the best-selling novels by Julia Quinn, here's what you need to know about the 'romantic, scandalous, and quick-witted series' from Shondaland, the production company of prolific writer Shonda Rhimes, the woman behind Scandal and Gray's Anatomy.

What is Bridgerton about?

Bridgerton is a romantic drama which follows Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne. And then things are thrown properly of course when the rebellious Duke of Hastings comes along.

Who is in the Bridgerton cast?

Phoebe Dynevor - the daughter of Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor - leads the show as Daphne, with Rege-Jean Page playing the eligible bachelor Duke of Hastings. Oh, and Julie Andrews is casually voicing mysterious gossip writer Lady Whistledown.

The drama also stars Jonathan Bailey (Doctor Who), Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls), Claudia Jessie (WPC 56), Ruby Barker (Wolfblood) and Ben Miller (Armstrong and Miller).

When is Bridgerton released?

Netflix are giving us the series as a Christmas present on Christmas Day - we're expecting all the episodes at once - how kind of them!

Is there a trailer?

Why yes, there is - and you can watch it here.We get a teaser at Julie Andrews narrating all the drama. But, we have to be honest, our main focus was on the outfits.
