Brad Pitt is working on a new film that will delve into the Harvey Weinstein scandal that rocked Hollywood at the end of last year.
The actor’s production company Plan B entertainment has acquired the rights to the story, which will focus on the Pulitzer Prize-winning story written by two journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey for the New York Times.
Their expose revealed years of allegations of sexual abuse from women in the industry, with more high-profile names coming forward with their own stories once the scandal broke. They included Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cara Delevingne. Weinstein has so far denied any allegations of non-consensual sex, and has checked himself into a rehab facility.
Pitt of course dated Gwyneth Paltrow and was married to Angelina Jolie, so he has a vested interest in the case. It was reported last year that Paltrow’s experience with Weinstein coincided with when she was dating Pitt, and that he confronted the producer when he found out what had happened.
According to People magazine: ‘Brad threatened Harvey. He got right in his face, poked him in the chest and said, 'You will not ever do this to Gwyneth ever again' Even apparently telling the Hollywood exec he would give him a 'Missouri whooping.'’
The film will no doubt not just focus on the famous women involved with the case, but also those behind the scenes, who worked for Weinstein for years and suffered similar abuse. All the cases share frightening similarities, as a pattern of inviting women to come to his hotel rooms for a meeting before asking them to either take a shower with him or massage him was established.
