Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds have announced the name of their baby boy, Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johns. In an Instagram post, Carrie Symonds said he was named after her and Johnson's grandfathers as well as doctors who cared for Johnson during his recent hospitalisation for coronavirus. In the post, the baby, who has a full head of blonde hair, is seen in Symonds' arms.

The caption reads: 'Introducing Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas born on 29.04.20 at 9am. Wilfred after Boris' grandfather Lawrie after my grandfather Nicholas after Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart - the two doctors that saved Boris' life last month. Thank you so, so much to the incredible NHS maternity team at UCLH that looked after us so well. I couldn't be happier. My heart is full.'

On Wednesday the couple announced birth of a 'healthy baby boy at a London hospital'.

A spokesperson said 'The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.'

Johnson only returned to work on Monday after spending time in intensive care while he was treated for coronavirus. Dominic Raab will stand in for Johnson at prime minister's questions later. 'So thrilled for Boris and Carrie. Wonderful to have a moment of unalloyed joy,' Health Secretary Matt Hancock posted on Twitter.

The pair announced news of their engagement, and that they were expecting a baby, earlier in the spring. ‘Many of you already know but for my friends that still don't, we got engaged at the end of last year... and we've got a baby hatching early summer. Feel incredibly blessed,' Carrie wrote on Instagram, alongside a selfie of the pair. Speculation has been that the pair got engaged whilst on holiday in Mustique over Christmas - putting Boris Johnson on track to be the first prime minister to get married while in office for 250 years.
