Bob Geldof is back at it again. And this time he’s swearing at fans for wearing Primark clothes. Geldof gave the crowds of Brentwood Festival in Essex a good telling off while on stage because they were wearing the famously inexpensive Primark brand. His exact words were ‘You are wearing wall to wall f****** Primark. This is a rock and roll festival. When you come to a rock and roll festival you dress for [one],' while he trotted around in a £350 snakeskin suit.
Depsite the multi-millionaire singer being a charity founder, he seemed unconcerned at shaming fans in a foul-mouthed rant for wearing the cheaply made clothes. His rant continued, in such rock ‘n’ roll style: 'We don't do Abba. We don't do Robbie f****** Williams. Brentwood, we are the Boomtown Rats.' And people weren’t impressed. Hundreds of fans at the family festival walked out in horror at the ‘horrendous’ singer, booing as they went.
The 64-year-old was booked to headline the two-day festival, which was organised by volunteers, with proceeds split between various charities. The festival was accompanied by 10,000 people, of who most heard the offensive rant by the The Band Aid founder.
One festival-goer, who left with her husband before the finale, told the Daily Mail: 'They sounded pretty dreadful,’ she continues, 'We were just thinking we probably wouldn't bother staying to hear I Don't Like Mondays as it didn't look like it would be worth the wait when Bob launched into an extraordinary, expletive-laden rant.
'As he launched into another dreadful song, we, along with hoardes of others, headed for the exit and I found myself in a queue to leave in the middle of the headline set.’
The festival’s co-ordinator Laurie Edmonds said: ‘We were disappointed that there was so much swearing.’’We want this to be a family event and it would have been nice if it was toned down. We’re really sorry if people were offended.’
