It is fair to say that we have been obsessed with Blake Lively’s wardrobe since her Serena van der Woodsen days. And the A-lister has been more than happy to share the secrets behind her Cali-girl glamour over the years (FYI: to attend her second ever premiere she opted for a yellow $13 dress from Forever 21).
But there is also a time and a place to quiz the former Gossip Girl star on her sartorial know-how.
At the Variety Power of Women luncheon in New York she was taken aback when a reporter asked her on the red carpet ‘What’s your power outfit?’
According to Vanity Fair the actress and mum of two shut down the sexist question, saying: ‘Come on, you want to talk about an outfit here, today?’
‘No way. Come on. Come on, we’re about building women up. Come on, outfits? Would you ask a man that?’ Lively added, ‘But you wouldn’t ask a man what his power outfit is, I’m sorry. Like see, this is the moment that we become more aware and that we change.’
Yes, Blake Lively is a Big Hollywood Star, L'Oréal brand ambassador and has leading designers queuing to dress her for any given event.
However, considering she was attending an event to be honoured for promoting the Child Rescue Coalition (a non-profit organisation that enables law enforcement to track, arrest & prosecute child predators) we can understand why this question was frustrating.
Similarly, Reese Witherspoon, tired of fielding questions over what she was wearing asked the media to #AskHerMore at the 2015 Oscars.
