It’s been four years (yes, that long) since Gossip Girl departed our screens with a final ‘XOXO’. So we couldn’t contain our excitement, understandably, when Blake Lively hinted at the show's revival in a recent interview with E OnlineE Online.
The 28 year-old admitted that it would be ‘fun’ to return to the role as Serena van der Woodsen, after the actress said, ‘We had such a great time doing that that I think we would all enjoy that.’
But what would Serena be up to these days?
‘I don’t know she’s probably on vactation.’ Blake laughs, ‘She’s probably living in Europe doing something fabulous. We haven’t been in touch...’
Yet with Blake’s thriving acting career and a second child with husband Ryan Reynolds on the way, it’s doubtful she’ll find the time to return to Upper East Side.
And four years is a long time, rendering a Gossip Girl revival unlikely. Executive Producer Josh Schwartz told E! News at the 2016 ATX TV Festival in June, ‘We haven't really explored some of those conversations. Maybe, I don't know. We haven't really thought about it.’
Part of the reason they doubt a Gossip Girl reboot would work is how much ‘the internet has changed’ over the past four years with the rise of social media.
‘The world has become Gossip Girl now,’ Schwartz said on how phones didn't even have cameras when the show began, 'Now literally everyone is Gossip Girl.’
But with the upcoming revival of The Gilmore GirlsThe Gilmore Girls, we’re feeling more nostalgic than ever and are keeping our fingers crossed that Blake recruits her former cast members for one last reunion.
But for now we'll have to make do with a Gossip Girl Netflix marathon instead...
