Last night, the biggest stars in music gathered for the 64th Grammy Awards. Olivia Rodrigo and Silk Sonic were the big winners of the night, and the audience were treated to performances from the likes of BTS, Lil Nas X and Lady Gaga decided to dedicate her set to one of the big names who was sadly missing on the night: late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
Billie - who was up for awards including album, record, and song of the year - gave a stunning performance of her album's title track Happier Than Ever while wearing a t-shirt dedicated to the musician, who passed away last month.
The Foo Fighters won best rock performance last night. But they cancelled their scheduled performance at the Grammys, and the rest of their tour dates, shortly after Taylor died.
Speaking at the Oscars to Access Hollywood,Billie called Taylor's death 'heartbreaking' and 'horribly tragic'. Her brother, and collaborator, Finneas, added: 'Taylor was such a legendary player. We were admirers of his work years before we got to meet him. And we only met him a handful of times… I wish we got to spend more time with him, but he couldn’t have been a kinder, cooler, more generous person as well. And such a deeply inspiring person. We’re just heartbroken.'
Taylor, 50, was found dead in his hotel room shortly before the band were set to headline Festival Estéreo Picnic event in Bogota, Colombia. The band wrote in a statement: 'The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.'
