The Big Brother Moments We Simply Can’t Forget

The only show we really, really wanted to return during lockdown was Big Brother - the original lockdown experiment. And our wish was E4's command, who have decided to bring the series back. Well, sort of. From Sunday, a series of classic episodes - with additional contributions from hosts Davina McCall and Emma Willis, along with spin off hosts Dermot O'Leary and Rylan Clark-Neal - will air, giving us chance to relive some of the iconic show's best moments throughout its 19 series run.

In honour of the reality show which changed the TV landscape, we take a look back at some of the show's most iconic moments. Which of these do you remember?

Nikki Grahame 'who is she?'

Over 16 years after she appeared on the series, Nikki Grahame's tantrums live on in the form of memes. But perhaps her most iconic was when she started shrieking 'who is she? Where did you find her?' (Tbh, we can't remember who housemate Susie Verrico is either.) Nikki really was the Queen of the Diary Room, as you can see below. They really should have turned the heating on, though.

Anna Nolan

The basketball-playing lesbian ex-nun, who loved to play the guitar and sing, was a whole iconic moment in itself, and she finished second in series one. Even if the experience wasn't her favourite. 'There were moments when I wanted to leave due to boredom, or people irritating me, or missing people at home,' she said after the series. 'Did I enjoy it? It wasn't about enjoying it, it was about getting through it.'

Gemma Collins 'I'm claustrophobic Darren'

Gemma Collins was without a doubt one of the most value for money contestants of all time. (If you need evidence, her time on the show has even been turned into a fast fashion collection now.) 'I'm claustrophobic Darren,' shrieked at Darren Day is probably her most memorable line. Shortly followed by her rage that the house only had hair straighteners.

Nasty Nick

We all couldn’t quite believe when Nasty Nick attempted to cheat in Big Brother by passing notes between contestants to sway nominations. He was confronted by eventual winner Craig. Now we’ve had 20 years of reality villains to get used to - but at the time, it was truly shocking.

Fight Night

We're not ones for violence, obviously, and in hindsight it all seems a bit Gladiator in the Coliseum, but the evening that has gone down in Big Brother history as Fight Night - part of series 5 - certainly sticks in the mind.

It all started when seemingly evicted contestants Emma Greenwood and Michelle Bass actually came back, and immediately started having fun with housemates including eventual winner Nadia Almada. With a bit of alcohol intake, they soon rubbed up Victor Ebuwa and Jason Cowan - two of the house's stronger and overtly masculine characters - the wrong way. Chaos ensued. Shouting. Throwing. Security were called. In short, madness. Honestly, it's difficult to name one person who didn't behave terribly that night. Not the show's finest moment, but undoubtedly memorable.

'David's dead'

In January 2016, the world was stunned of David Bowie. At the time, his ex-wife Angie was in the Celebrity Big Brother house, and bosses delivered the news to her via the diary room. First deciding to keep quiet, Angie then felt she had to share the news and told Tiffany Pollard. Which didn't exactly go to plan as she thought housemate David Gest had died. Not awkward at all.

Casey Bachelor, Lee Ryan and Jasmine Waltz love triangle

Casey Batchelor, Lee Ryan and Jasmine Waltz were embroiled in a love triangle - but it all got very emotional when Casey's mum entered the house during a challenge and she used the opportunity to tell her how Lee was making an absolute mug of her. While it was very uncomfortable to watch, Dappy's face throughout is an absolute picture.

Alison Hammond breaking the table

We always knew Alison Hammond was destined for legendary TV status in series three when she broke a table as she tried to communicate with 'security guards' outside the garden.

Makosi misunderstands reproduction

We absolutely adored Makosi Musambasi of series 6. She was made for television and should have won, in our humble opinions. But she didn't really get how babies are made. She showed up to the Diary Room one morning and asked for a pregnancy test, even though she had enjoyed a jacuzzi tryst - with eventual winner Anthony Hutton - mere hours before.

Takes a little longer than that, obviously. But we respect her desire to keep ahead of the game.

Alex Sibley... buttoning his shirt?

Look, we know this was five seconds in a very busy series three, but for some reason it stuck with us. Housemate Alex - handsome, but he knew it - took the opportunity for a brief lip sync to KC & The Sunshine Band's seminal song That's The Way (I Like It) as he gazed into the camera, and our souls. It was so simple, but weirdly sexy.

Big Brother: Best Shows Ever begins Sunday, June 14 at 9pm on E4.
