No one does it like Beyoncé. It’s been just over two years since the singer/icon/all-round queen of the world released a fully formed album out of nowhere and threw us all into meltdown, and she’s been a little quiet on the musical front of late. Until last Saturday, that is, when Bey dropped the Formation video: five minutes of jaw-dropping, politically resonant flawlessness that references everything from hot sauce to Hurricane Katrina to the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Oh, and did we mention the adorable cameo from mini-b Blue Ivy?
Not one to rest on her laurels, Queen B went on to steal the show from Coldplay and Bruno Mars at the Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday night, and casually announced a major world tour (which will kick off in June.) We are not worthy.
You’ve probably been watching it on repeat for the past 48 hours, so to celebrate the return of our favourite all-round superstar, here are the best (and instantly iconic) fashion moments from the Formation video.
The Gucci dress
A version of this coral patterned dress was seen on Gucci's S/S'16 catwalk, but naturally the global fashion house have tweaked things a little for Queen B.
The fur jacket
This snowy Fendi fur and white boysuit combination are classic 'Beyoncé video' territory - and that's why we love it.
A special mention has to go to B's ridiculously perfect braids - and serious kudos to her for making red eyeshadow look wearable (of course she did, she's Beyoncé.)
The 'athleisure' girl squad
Beyoncé and her gang of genetically gifted backing dancers are reportedly wearing custom made Gucci body suits. A little fancier than our usual gym attire, it's fair to say.
The black hat
B's look is a high fashion take on the Southern Gothic tradition.
Blue Ivy!
We wish we could pull off that hand-on-hip with half as much aplomb as Beyoncé's daughter, Blue. She and her pals are wearing vintage kidswear.
The double denim
Authentically '80s denim styling deserves authentically grainy video footage, right?
The ladylike lace (and parasol)
The Victoriana-style white lace tunic is by Australian label Zimmerman, and thanks to B, the parasol could be the hottest accessory of S/S'16.
The Old South squad
Another throwback look, this time referencing the Southern Belle style of America's Deep South. B is wearing Alessandra Rich, with a hat by Chanel.
The pastel mesh dress
Beyoncé's lilac and lime mesh dress is by - you guessed it - Gucci. Again, it was seen on the catwalk in a slightly different incarnation. Clearly, it pays to have Alessandro Michele on speed dial.
The red body suit
A puff-shouldered maroon bodysuit with pearls and knee-highs: it's a look that only B could pull off.
