Just over a week ago, the news broke that Beyoncé and Jay-Z had welcomed their twins. The couple are yet to publicly confirm the happy news (leaving us hanging on tenterhooks for the inevitable high-concept Instagram reveal) or reveal the names of their new arrivals, but Beyoncé has now broken her silence: albeit through the medium of an awards acceptance speech, read by her Parkwood Entertainment protégées (and Lemonade co-stars) Chloe and Halle Bailey.
After Beyoncé was announced as the winner of the BET Viewer’s Choice Award for ‘Sorry,’ the two singers headed to the stage to accept the trophy in her honour. After describing her as an ‘iconic artist, a trend setter, a rule maker, a rule breaker, and our forever inspiration and mentor,’ the pair read out Bey’s speech, in which she thanked BET, the BeyHive, her mother Tina and yes, her entire family (which includes the two newborn ‘bey’-bies, obviously).
‘Thank you BET for this award and your tremendous support of Lemonade. This has been a journey of love, of celebrating our culture, honouring the past and approaching the present and future with hope and resolve,’ they read.
‘Thank you to my mother Tina Knowles Lawson for being my biggest, biggest teacher and consistent influence. Thank you to my entire family for so much love. To my team at Parkwood, thank you. And thanks to all the fans, my BeyHive, for riding with me. I love and appreciate you. To everyone at the show tonight, you all look so beautiful and at home, thank you and have a wonderful, wonderful night. From, Beyoncé.’
Since the arrival of the two latest additions to the Carter-Knowles family, Internet conjecture has gone into overdrive, with some sources speculating that Jay and Bey have sought naming inspiration from… themselves, opting to name their new children Shawn Junior and Bea (pronounced ‘Bee’).
