Beyoncé is a perfectionist. Whether it's in the production of her incredible music videos, or in her curated Instagram feed, it's visible in every aspect of her life. So it comes as no surprise that the talented vocalist follows the same principle when it comes to her diet.

The superstar, who is married to Jay-Z, recently caused controversy when she shared a video detailing the strict diet she maintained after the birth of her twins Rumi and Sir Carter and in the lead up to her majestic Coachella performance. It explained the premise behind 22 Day Nutrition, a plant-based diet, and saw Beyoncé lamenting her post-baby weight of 175lbs.

"Good morning," she can be heard saying as the video pans to weighing scales. "It’s 5.00am, and this is day one of rehearsals for Coachella."

As the scales show her weight, she says, "Every woman’s nightmare. Long way to go."

She also shows a human side when she details how insecure and uncomfortable she felt about her body, as she can be heard saying, "I’m back on the stage after giving birth to twins. I was a woman that felt like my body was not mine.

"Me getting the weight off was so much easier than getting my body back in shape and feeling comfortable."

Beyoncé followed the diet, which was set up by her personal trainer Marco Borges, for 44 days. It appears as though her dancers were also encouraged to follow the plan for rehearsals, as he's seen telling them, "We're going go 100 percent plant-based from now through to Coachella.

"We know the power of vegetables, we know the power of plants, we know the power of foods that haven't been processed and are as close to vegetables as possible.

"Plant-based is really about eliminating all of the overly processed foods that don’t do us any good anyways. When you're eating plant-based you will definitely have more energy...your mood is going to change completely."

She detailed it further in her Homecoming documentary, when she said, "I’m limiting myself to no bread, no carbs, no sugar, no dairy, no meat, no fish, no alcohol – and I’m hungry."

Beyonce has since launched 22 Days Nutrition Meal Planner, which offers customised recipes to paying members - but fans of the Lion King star have lamented her for encouraging women to focus on their weight, rather than loving themselves as they are.

One surprised fan tweeted, 'I’m actually shocked that Beyoncé is promoting this. She is the epitome of women empowerment and is so much better than this. This just sets an unrealistic goal for the every day woman'. Another added, 'This is desperately irresponsible. “Selling” this will make young and vulnerable people judge and police their bodies even more harshly than they already do. I’m so disappointed you think this is acceptable.'
