Beyoncé’s friend and former collaborator Naughty Boy has revealed that he spoke to the singer about the motivations behind her new album Lemonade.

Speaking to her last year, he says she revealed the emotional rollercoaster she was experiencing at the time.

“I spoke to her last year,” he said. “She was going through the emotions that a woman goes through. It was every raw emotion and every happiness and every sadness. I knew that album was going to reflect that.”

The pair have been friends since their smash hit Runnin’ (Lose It All) last year, but the British producer refused to speculate on rumours that the album alludes to infidelities by Bey’s husband Jay Z.

“I try not to gossip about somebody else’s business. I’m not trying to read between the lines.”

There are also no hard feelings about Beyoncé’s decision not to include Runnin’ on the track list of her latest album. “That album is a body of work. I’m sure we will work together again one day,” he said. “Runnin’ is still getting played and people are still talking about it. My contribution is there.

“She’s performing Runnin’ on the Formation tour and that’s amazing. I can’t wait to catch it when she gets over to Britain.”
