It’s just been found who’s really wearing the trousers when it comes to Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s relationship, as it turns out that the Flawless singer made double the amount her husband did in 2013. Topping the Forbes celebrity power list, the former Destiny’s Child star – who recently regrouped with ex-bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams to make quite a catchy gospel track in the form of Say Yes – made a whopping £67.4m last year thanks to her Mrs Carter tour and the runaway success of her eponymous album. Compare that to Jay- Z’s haul of £35.1m (he places number six in the rundown of celebrity earners) and you can see just how high-flying she is.
Which is pretty awesome when you consider that Bey’s 12 years younger than her husband, and has only been a solo artist for 12 years (to his 22).
And, when you take into account the fact Beyoncé has railed against the gender pay gap, recently writing for The Shriver Report about how ridiculous and endangering to women’s liberation it is, it’s all the more sweet. At the time, she wrote: 'Equality will be achieved when men and women are granted equal pay and equal respect.'
That said, Jay and Bey know that their combined celebrity brings in the big bucks, too, as they’ve embarked on a joint tour across America to make them even richer and glossier than ever before.
Just FYI, the rating system takes into account social media, number of mentions in print, TV and radio, which is why Dr Dre, despite his £363m profit from the sale of his Beats headphones and speakers ranger earlier this year, doesn’t make it to the top of the list.
