While his wife Jennifer Garner may have spoken out about her split from Ben Affleck in a no-holds barred interview with US magazine Vanity Fair, the actor has remained silent. Until now, that is…

In an interview with The New York Times (which took place the day after Jennifer’s Vanity Fair feature was released) Ben explained that his reticence regarding the separation had been ‘for the sake of [his] three children,’ adding that speaking out ‘ends up being in the record somewhere, in the great miasma of junk on the Internet.’

He added that he was aware that Jennifer had spoken to the press, explaining ‘[she] felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with, so she could say, “Look, I already talked about it – I don’t want to do it again.” It’s fine. She’s allowed to talk about it.

The couple are reportedly on good terms following the split, which came after ten years of marriage; something that both stars have been very keen to confirm in interviews, with Ben telling the New York Times ‘Jen’s great. She’s a great person. We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.’ In case you missed that, they’re just great. Anyone else getting minor Ross-in-Friends vibes?

In her Vanity Fair cover feature, Jennifer spoke candidly about the breakdown of her marriage, and her present relationship with Ben, explaining that ‘It was a real marriage. It wasn’t for the cameras. And it was a huge priority for me to stay in it. And that did not work.’

She also touched on Ben’s alleged infidelity with the couple’s nanny, Christine Ouzounian, stating that ‘We had been separated for months before I ever heard about the nanny […] She had nothing to do with our decision to divorce. She was not a part of the equation.’
