It’s BAFTA time! The biggest names in the film industry have braved the British weather to walk the red carpet outside Covent Garden’s beautiful Royal Opera House (how many EE umbrellas can you spot just out of shot?) and as expected, we spotted some swoon-inducing gowns that deserve awards all of their own.
BAFTAs 2016: Red Carpet Trends
The Deep V

From the Golden Globes to the SAGs and now the BAFTAs, plunging V-shaped necklines have been everywhere this awards season. We're obsessed with French actress Stacey Martin's pitch-perfect embellished number. Want to try the trend yourself? We've rounded up some styling hints for wearing the deep V off the red carpet.
Ladies in red
Dakota Johnson, Hannah Bagshawe and Emilia Clarke [Rex Features]
Whether they were inspired by the dancing lady emoji or erm, the red carpet, Dakota, Hannah and Emilia all looked radiant in red, adding a much needed burst of colour to the London gloom.
Embellishment
Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander [Rex Features]
Some of our favourite looks from the night were all about detail. Just look at the lavish embellishment on the bodice of Cate Blanchett's gorgeous custom Alexander McQueen number, and the floral beaded designs on Saoirse's Burberry gown. Serious credit goes to Alicia Vikander, whose embellished leather style by French fashion house Louis Vuitton reportedly weighed around 35 pounds...
Black and white
Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet and Isla Fisher [Rex Features]
Classic monochrome is always a winner come awards season. Julianne, Isla and Best Supporting Actress Kate Winslet all opted for simple, structured gowns in black or white.

Dakota Johnson has opted for a simple gown in one stunning shade of red (sorry not sorry.) Her dress is by Dior.
Julianne Moore (who walked away with the Best Actress gong at last year's ceremony) looks as chic as ever in a halterneck white gown with black neck detail.
Cate Blanchett never looks less than heavenly, but her BAFTAs gown is truly out of this world. Her dress, which is by Alexander McQueen, is a lovely nod to London's design talent.
Saoirse Ronan, who is nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in Brooklyn, wears a heavily embellished gown that has been custom-made by Burberry, teamed with a statement necklace and an effortlessly cool ponytail.
Alicia Vikander has owned the red carpet at every award ceremony this year, and it seems the BAFTAs are no exception for the star, who is nominated for her roles in The Danish Girl AND Ex Machina. She's wearing an embellished leather gown by Louis Vuitton (who else!)

It's not all about the dresses tonight, either - the British boys have seriously upped their style game this evening. Eddie Redmayne looks as sharp as ever in a Valentino suit, while Rising Star nominee John Boyega is killing it in a velvet tux.
