This year's Virgin Media TV BAFTAs - hosted by comedian Richard Ayoade - celebrated the best of the small screen from the past twelve months. Winners included the one and only Jodie Comer for her magnificent performance in Channel 4's powerful care home Covid drama Help, Jamie Demetriou, who won the award for male performance in a comedy programme for Stath Lets Flats, and Matthew Macfadyen who took the supporting actor award for his role in HBO's Succession.
Motherland won the scripted comedy award, with BBC Three's In My Skin winning the big award of the night for drama series. Despite nominations across several categories It's A Sin did not win any awards, much to the surprise of viewers watching at home.
At the event many stars took the opportunity to celebrate the power of public broadcasting services, following the news that Channel 4 is to be privatised. Speaking on the red carpet, nominee Aisling Bea said: 'When you see people trying to turn a public body that breaks stories like the Windrush scandal and you see people trying to take that over, it is really scary. It is a really important thing to fight.'
