Aussie Singer Cody Simpson's New Song 'Thotful' Is Gross. On Loads Of Levels.

He’s got over 7 million Twitter followers, and is billed as the Aussie (and nicer) Justin Bieber, so it’s weird that Cody Simpson’s latest song is called You’re So Thotful. A thot, for anyone who doesn’t already know, stands for ‘That Ho Over There’ (or ‘That Ho Out There’, depending on who you speak to) and is basically the latest synonym for slut. Another eye-rolling term to shame women who have sex, because sex is just for men – haven’t you heard?

Anyway, Cody Simpson hasn’t just mispronounced ‘thoughtful’, this is a song all about how there’s a ‘thot’ and she doesn’t fancy him. And it comes across as really slut-shamey and all-round gross. ‘She’ll be anything to anyone, but she gives nothing back to me. ’Cause she’s so thotful,’ he croons, apparently confused by the fact that a woman who has sex won’t necessarily have sex with him. I’ve had sex. And I don’t want to have sex with him. Am I a thot?

Of course, singing about people who don’t want to have sex with you is fine – and if you made it not fine, then there’d be no songs – but why introduce the ‘slut’ element? He’s basically saying, ‘Hey, you’re a slut so why won’t you shag me?’ Which makes us want to bang our head against the wall. At least when Drake sung about it, he was seemingly annoyed because the girl in question was cheating on her boyfriend. But that still doesn't make her a slut, or a ‘thot’. Just a ‘bit of a dick’. Can we come up with a male version of a thot, like a ‘taot’ (That Arsehole Over There) or a ‘teat’ (That Eggdick Over There – OK, I just wanted to get ‘teat’ into this article).

What’s more annoying is that Cody’s song is not that bad, it’s just ruined by that goddamn word. Hey, people of the world, shall we ban all usage of ‘thot’? Then maybe the Victorian fear of women’s sexuality will die out.

In the meantime yeah, we’re not going to embed the video to the song, but if you really must, here it is, for your viewing pleasure.
