While at this year's Met Gala Ashley Graham stole the show in a custom-made corseted red H&M gown, the previous year was a slightly different story.
In a new interview with New York magazine, the model, designer and body positive activist revealed that she had not been able to attend the 2016 Met Gala because no designer would dress her.

'I couldn’t get a designer to dress me,' Graham told the magazine.
'You can’t just show up in jeans and a T-shirt,' she said.
Graham told New York that at the time she thought it was because she hadn't built the right relationships with the designers who dress the stars for the big red carper event, but it is likely that being a non-sample size would have been a factor. With fashion houses often creating their collections in sample size only (normally size 6 or 8), people that are a different shape can struggle to secure outfits.
This isn't the first time a celebrity has found it difficult to get a designer gown suitable for their size. Last year actress Bryce Dallas Howard (a size 10) famously wore a Topshop dress she had bought herself to Critics' Choice Awards because she found it impossible to borrow a dress from a designer.
