Sealed with ink

Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia have solidified their friendship with ink. The lead actresses, who star as Glinda and Elphaba in the highly anticipated film adaptation of the hit musical, have revealed that their time on set left more than just a mark on their careers - it left several marks on their skin.

While promoting the film, the duo revealed they got four matching tattoos to signify their magical bond, each with a special connection to Wicked or the world of Oz.

One of the most talked about tattoos is the word 'For Good' inked on their palms. As fans of the musical will know, the song For Good is a heartfelt duet between the two witches. 'So when we hold hands, the words touch,' Ariana told MTV in an interview.

The pair have also opted for matching poppies on the outer edges of their hands. While neither has explicitly confirmed the meaning, I suspect it's a nod to the infamous poppy field in The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy and her friends succumb to a magical sleep while en route to the Emerald City.

Ariana and Cynthia also unveiled hearts with letters on the backs of their ankles, symbolising their respective characters. Ariana’s heart says an 'E' for Elphaba, and Cynthia’s bears a 'G' for Glinda. It playfully is a double entendre—‘E’ for Elphaba and Erivo, and ‘G’ for Glinda and Grande.

The final tattoo, however, remains a mystery. During a Today Show interview, Ariana teased that she and Cynthia have a secret tattoo that holds a more 'intense' meaning. Neither actress elaborated, leaving fans to speculate wildly online.  Naturally, the internet is both intrigued and unsettled by the depth of their relationship. 'What the hell happened during this movie?!' one TikToker said under the Today Show's viral video, while another commented, 'They are twin flames'.

Fans have since dubbed the duo soulmates. Whether weird or wicked, one thing is clear: Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's tattoos will have fans talking For Good.
