Hold the front page, Harry and Meghan have been spotted pulling into Oprah Winfrey’s front drive again.
A little over a year after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave that bombshell interview to Lady O, the California Royals were snapped rolling into Oprah’s estate in a Range Rover.
Tongues were set wagging after MailOnline shared imagesof Prince Harry driving Meghan and a friend, believed to be actress Janina Gavankar, prompting people to speculate as to whether the Sussexes are plotting a ‘Part 2’ to their explosive Oprah tell-all.
Of course, the fact that Harry and Megs are close personal pals with the First Lady of American talk telly — and live just five minutes from her Montecino mansion — does suggest they may simply have been popping around for afternoon cuppa and a cucumber sarnie or two.
But, having reportedly hired the Oscar-nominated director Liz Garbus for their top-secret Netflix doc, and with plenty of eyes needed to make their Archewell media brand an industry titan, we wouldn’t bet against another set-the-record straight exclusive with Oprah. Hold on to your popcorn, people.
What happened last time Oprah interviewed Prince Harry and Meghan?
More than 12m people in the UK and 17m in the US tuned in to watch Meghan and Harry hold forth on their estrangement from the Royal family. And boy, did they spill the tea.
Harry told Oprah that ‘my family literally cut me off financially’ after he married Meghan in a fairytale church service in 2020, saying that the jobbing actor should pay her own way.
Meghan said that her life as a royal had made her feel suicidal. ‘I was ashamed to have to admit it to Harry,’ she said of her suicidal thoughts. ‘I knew that if I didn’t say it, I would do it. I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.’
And both spoke powerfully about how they felt they’d been let down as they struggled with allegedly racist comments about Meghan and their son Archie, even before he was born.
‘We have in tandem the conversation of ‘He won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,’ Meghan said.
In a particularly bombshell claim, Harry said that someone in his own family had expressed worry about, as he put it, ‘what will the kids look like?’
What was the fallout of the Prince Harry and Meghan interview?
A short statement issued on behalf of the Queen read: ‘The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
‘Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.’
The hatchet appeared to have been buried earlier this month when Harry and Meghan visited the UK with their children, Archie and Lilibet, for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. But who knows what a new interview might throw up.
