The Annie remake is box-stepping its musical way to us all, and there's a trailer to get everyone all excited about it. Starring Quvenzhané Wallis – her of 12 Years A Slave and The Beasts Of The Southern Wild, a role which saw her nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, aged just nine – it is an updated version of the classic film with a few new twists.
Cameron Diaz plays Miss Hannigan, the washed-up, mean manager of a Harlem orphanage (whether Harlem, in gentrified Manhattan, is still as run-down as it used to be, is still to be proven), and Daddy Warbucks is no longer just a billionaire, he's Jamie Foxx and he is running for mayor. Annie is initially part of his PR campaign to make him look like a family man, but she eventually wins him over with her scampish charm and then they all do a lot of singing and dancing. You know the drill.
The best thing about the trailer is that it’s chock full of laughs, mostly from Cameron at her Bad Teacher-style best, it looks like it could be as much a film for adults as it is for children. Oh, and with Quvenzhané's inability to look quite as moody as Willow Smith, we're pretty glad that Willow got too old to play Annie.
