Have You Been Pronouncing Anne Hathaway’s Name Wrong This Whole Time?

We have to admit it, we're guilty.

We have some apologising to do to Anne Hathaway, AKA the absolute queen of rom-coms and one of the most famous women in the world. Apparently, according to Anne herself, we have been pronouncing her name wrong the whole time.

Yep. We're not joking.

Anne, or should we say, Annie, made her peace on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, explaining that she never meant for everyone to know her by her first full name, Anne. 'I’ve known you for a pretty long time now. I’ve heard people call you Annie, like your good friends,' Fallon told her. 'Do I call you Anne or Annie?' To which Hathaway then replied, saying everyone should call her Annie from now on. 'Call me Annie,' Hathaway said. 'Everybody, call me Annie, please.'

Annie, as we are now calling her, said that the whole palaver started when she was 14, and joined the joined the Screen Actors Guild labour union. When filling out the form, she put her whole, legal name - but made a mistake, as she didn't realise Anne would stick. 'That seemed like the right choice, but it never occurred to me that for the rest of my life, people would call me Anne,' she said.

And it's not just that she doesn't like the name - she gets scared when she hears it. The actress continued, 'The only person who ever calls me "Anne" is my mother, and she only does it when she’s really mad at me, like, really mad. Every time I step out in public and someone calls my name, I think they’re going to yell at me.'

Understandable, tbh.

Annie then told Fallon, and the whole world, to 'call me anything but Anne'. OK, message received, Annie.
