We all know that the editor of Runway in Devil Wears Prada was (loosely) based on American Vogue editor Anna Wintour - but that hasn’t stopped her being friendly with her on-screen counterpart Meryl Streep 13 years later. Pictured by TMZ, Dame Anna was picturing kissing Meryl on the cheek during an hour-long power lunch at Italian café Sant Ambroeus West Village in New York last week. (So that would have been before she hostedthe Met Gala!) And it looked totally iconic. That's all.
It’s obviously not the first time the Devil Wears Prada stars have met. In 2017, when the actress tried to speak to Wintour about the fictional Miranda Priestly during a Voguevideo interview, the editor shut her down, firmly saying, ‘No. No. We're not going there, Meryl.'
Previously speaking about the film - and the Lauren Weisberger book it was based on - Anna said at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in 2016, according to The Cut, that she had discussed the franchise with Miuccia Prada. 'Many years ago, the Prada name and I were thrown together in the title of a book and then a movie,’ she started. ‘For a while it seemed that that association was the only flattering thing about the enterprise, and Miuccia and I never discussed it. Finally, at one of our lunches, she leaned across the table and she said, "Anna, that book, it's good for both of us." And the subject has never come up again.'
