Anna Wintour has apologised for using the phrase ‘migrant chic’ following a barrage of criticism for her comments about Kanye West’s Yeezy show on the Late Night With Seth Meyers show.
Describing arriving early for the Madison Square Garden show, Wintour said: “Waiting for the Kardashians to arrive en masse – and Jay-Z. So, eventually, they did turn up and The Life of Pablo concert started and the migrant chic fashion show started and they were both wonderful.”
But the Vogue Editor has since apologised for her choice of words.
“I apologise if my remark was offensive in any way," she said. "The migrant crisis is real, and I didn’t intend to trivialize that issue."
Her apology follows an outcry on Twitter, with one user posting: “Apparently migrant chic is becoming a thing in the fashion world. Do we really need to spell out how insensitive that is?”
Kanye’s New York Fashion Week invitation featured a photograph of a Rwandan refugee camp taken by Paul Lowe, which inspired Yeezy Season Three.
