Amber Heard recently announced the happy news that she had become a mother for a second (and third) time, welcoming twins – a girl named Agnes and a son named Ocean - earlier this month.
Sharing a sweet snap of her newborn children’s feet, Amber – who is already mum to daughter Oonagh, four, who she welcomed via surrogate – wrote, ‘Mother’s Day 2025 will be one I’ll never forget. This year I am elated beyond words to celebrate the completion of the family I’ve strived to build for years. Today, I officially share the news that I welcomed twins into the Heard gang. My daughter Agnes and my son Ocean are keeping my hands (and my heart) full.’
‘When I had my first baby girl Oonagh four years ago, my world changed forever. I thought I couldn’t possibly burst with more joy. Well, now I am bursting times three!!!!’

Amber also opened up about her choice to pursue solo parenthood, saying, ‘Becoming a mother by myself and on my own terms despite my own fertility challenges has been the most humbling experience of my life. I am eternally grateful that I was able to choose this responsibly and thoughtfully. To all the moms, wherever you are today and however you got here, my dream family and I are celebrating with you.’
While many were quick to send congratulations to Amber, well wishes weren’t on the minds of others. In fact, despite Amber’s clear admission she had 'become a mother by myself,’ many were left questioning who the biological father of Amber’s children are…
Who is Amber Heard's partner?
It’s unknown whether the star, who now lives in Madrid with her young family, is currently dating anyone.
Amber was previously wed to Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp from 2015 until 2017, with the pair involved in a high-profile defamation trial in 2022. The trial, which was watched online by over 500 million people across the globe, saw Amber ordered to pay $10 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages. The jury also awarded Amber $2 million in compensatory damages for her countersuit against Johnny.
The star was last linked to cinematographer Bianca Butti last year, although it appears the pair have now split. Amber also dated tech billionaire Elon Musk from 2016 to 2018 – with many speculating that the billionaire is the father of her children.
Who is the father of Amber Heard's children?
It’s unknown who the father of Amber's three children are, with the star making it clear she is parenting on her own – referring to her family as the ‘Heard gang.’ However, this hasn’t stopped speculation surfacing over Amber’s previous relationship with controversial businessman (turned special government employee under Donald Trump) Elon Musk.
A declaration from a 2022 court case recently resurfaced, in which a close friend of Amber’s sister Whitney alleged that Elon and Amber had planned to have children together. According to the friend, the two had created embryos ‘together.’ After their split, Amber’s former friend Jennifer Howell alleged Musk sought to ‘destroy them,’ while Amber ‘tried to keep them to have a baby.’ The declaration was ultimately not admitted into evidence during Depp’s trial against Heard after her attorneys successfully argued that it had been obtained under false pretences by the plaintiff’s legal team, with them later accusing Depp’s lawyers of leaking documents.
After Amber shared the news of her twins, plenty took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to further speculate on the rumours. One wrote, ‘Reportedly, Amber Heard and Elon Musk created embryos together during their relationship, then had a legal dispute over the rights after their breakup.’
Another added, ‘We don’t even know who fathered Amber’s first child!’

However, others were quick to jump to the defence of any paternity questions. ‘Why does it matter so much to people who the father is of Amber Heard’s babies?’ wrote one. ‘She clearly states she became a mom on her own terms by herself.’
‘They are Amber Heard’s babies’ added another, as one supporter agreed, ‘No matter who the doner is, Amber is the only parents.’
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter who the father of Amber’s children are. Whether a billionaire ex or an unknown sperm donor, the only parent of any importance is the one who is involved in bringing up those children – and in this case, that's Amber. The Aquaman star has made it explicitly clear over the years that she’s growing her family on her terms, calling herself the ‘mom and dad’ during a 2023 Instagram post on Oonagh.
In fact, Amber isn’t alone. She’s joining a fast-growing group of women dubbed Solo Mothers by Choice (SMC.) Figures last year from the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority show an increase in the number of single woman choosing in-vitro fertilisation. Likewise, the number of treatment cycles where women used their own eggs with donor sperm went up by a whopping 50% in the UK between the years of 2013 and 2018.
Back in 2021, after welcoming Oonagh via surrogate, Amber candidly spoke about how she was choosing to pursue solo parenthood – describing her daughter as ‘the beginning of the rest of my life.’
‘Four years ago I decided I wanted to have a child,’ she wrote. ‘I wanted to do it on my terms. I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way. I hope we arrive at a point in which it’s normalised to not want a ring in order to have a crib.’
