Amal Clooney is respected around the world for her important work as a human rights lawyer. She is also married to – and expecting twins with – George Clooney, one of the most famous actors on the planet.

In a new interview with BBC News’ Fiona Bruce, Amal has spoken out about the impact her marriage to a Hollywood A-lister has had upon her career, explaining how the spotlight can be ‘a really good thing’ if it helps to raise the profile of the causes she is invested in.

When asked by Bruce whether she believes her relationship with George gives her work a greater platform, the 39-year-old lawyer agreed, explaining that ‘there is lots of my work that takes place behind closed doors that is not ever seen.’

‘I think if there are more people who now understand what’s happening about the Yazidis and ISIS, and if there can be some action that results from that, that can help those clients, then I think it’s a really good thing to give that case the extra publicity that it may get,’ she said.

She went on to make it clear that headlines and high-profile photo ops will only help draw attention to one’s work if the work itself is worthwhile. ‘If you don’t have a good case and you don’t have a good message, then shining a light on it is not going to get you very far,’ she concluded.

Amal is currently providing legal representation for 23-year-old ISIS trafficking victim Nadia Murad, and hopes to bring the case to the Hague on behalf of the thousands of Yazidi genocide victims killed by the terrorist group.

Earlier this year, her husband George revealed that while Amal will continue working throughout her pregnancy, the couple will no longer be travelling to places that might put them in danger.

‘We decided to be much more responsible, to avoid the danger. I will not go to South Sudan any more or the Congo [and] Amal will no longer go to Iraq and she will avoid places where she knows she is not welcome,’ he explained.
