Allison Williams, who plays Marnie in Girls, has a total butter-wouldn’t-melt look to her; at least off-screen, that is. However, a spanner has been thrown in the works of her upcoming nuptials due to a bit of a scandal in her family. The family itself is tight as ever, but her dad is in a fair bit of trouble right now.
See, in America, Allison is mostly known for being NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams’ daughter. He’s basically America’s Jon Snow. However, all of his credentials are under threat, as he’s allegedly been lying about stuff he’s reported on. You can see the whole list of alleged lies at Politico.com, but otherwise, here's a brief rundown; he said he was at the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 although he got there the day after it fell. He also said in 2003 that he was in a helicopter in Iraq that was hit with a grenade, even though it was another helicopter that had been hit. He then said, while covering 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, that he’d seen a body float past the hotel he’d been staying in; however, the Ritz general manager said that none of the staff had seen the body.

What does this grim stuff mean? Well, Brian has been suspended from NBC without pay, and is stepping down from all sorts of posts he used to be assigned to. As for Allison? She’s defended him, telling Seth Meyers in an interview: ‘It's been tough, though. Obviously, toughest on my dad, who bears the full burden of responsibility for it, but one thing the experience has not done is shake my trust and belief in him as a man.’
‘He's a really good man.' E! reports her as saying: 'He's an honest man. He's a truthful man. He has so much integrity. He cares so much about journalism. And yes, he's a really good dad. I know you can trust him because, as any good daughter does, I've tested him on that.’
She also explained that her wedding, which was previously delayed because of her leading role in Peter Pan live, is delayed because of what’s going on right now: ‘Then current events started happening, so that derailed it a little bit, but it has been this really beautiful through-line in our lives. It's just something we [her and fiancé Ricky Van Veen] haven't focused on, but, spoiler alert, we are excited!’
Well, it’s pretty good to have something good to look forward to after all of this, right?
