If you weren't already made aware by the endless stream of paparazzi pictures and articles, people have been lurking around the set of And Just Like That in such a way that we can almost predict what's going to happen frame for frame.
Here's what we know: the girls are all still living in New York. Carrie can afford a family-sized town house on a journalist's salary. Aidan is back on the scene. However, a recent batch of behind the scenes pictures shows the cast dressed all in black. A curveball. Of course, this suggests the formally dressed Carrie – usually one for bold patterns and colours in her day to day wears – Charlotte, Miranda, Aidan and Harry are at another funeral.
In the first season of And Just Like That , they all attended Big's funeral after he died unexpectedly from a heart attack on his Peloton. By the looks of these photos, it looks like they are all set to attend another one in season three.
But whose could it be? Of course, there are fan theories aplenty. Some suggested that the smartly dressed characters are off to a wedding – perhaps the long-awaited wedding of Carrie and Aidan (without the pear-shaped ring)? However, common sense overrides and the consensus is that all black does not typically signify a romantic celebration.
One fan suggested it could be a funeral for Stanford Blatch – Carrie's beloved best friend played by Willie Garson. They wrote, 'What about a tribute to Stanford, in the show they said he’s out of the country could be it their saying he had a accident and it will be them writing him out & a tribute to our friend Stanford.' Willie died of pancreatic cancer during the filming of the first season in 2021 and up until now his character has been travelling around the world in the show. It would therefore make sense for them to honour his death in the script too.
Another eagle-eyed viewer thinks it could be the funeral of Carrie's friend Lisa Todd-Wexley's father. She commented, 'The building the funeral is being held at has a gold plaque with Lisa Todd Wexely's dad’s name on it. So I’m guessing the funeral is either for her or someone in her family.' Given that Lisa has become a close friend of the main cast, it's not an impossible suggestion.
While someone else wrote that it could be Steve's funeral, as he is noticeably missing from the line-up. The fan commented, 'Oh no .. this must be Steve's funeral . He is the only reason why Aidan would be there and he isn't shown with the remaining cast.' If we consider how the last season was left, that might stack up. However, recent set pictures show that Aidan and Carrie might be back together so it would make sense for him to accompany her to a funeral.
Of course, it was only a matter of time before someone suggested it could be a memorial for Samantha Jones, writing 'they killed off Samantha???'. This theory has been mentioned several times – especially given how chirpy the cast, who are on notoriously bad terms with Kim Cattrall, look in the pictures. Kim also confirmed that, despite making a cameo at the end of season two, she will not be returning in season three.
One of the most plausible theories, however, is that it is Che Diaz's funeral – Carrie's former podcast colleague and Miranda's former flame. At the end of season two, Miranda and Che called time on their relationship and Che had started to work in an animal shelter after suffering knocks in their comedy career. Since then, the actor who plays them, Sara Ramírez, has confirmed they won't be returning for season three after Che's non-binary character repeatedly became the subject of mockery.
There are also suggestions that Sara, who has been outspoken in their support for Palestine in the Israel-Hamas war, fell out with the show because of differing political views. In one social media post, they wrote, 'It’s wild how performative so many in Hollywood are. Even more performative than the last character I played.' When asked about Sara leaving the show, a spokesperson for Max declined to comment.
It wouldn't be surprising, then, if Che had been killed off because they were fairly intertwined in the world of the show up until now and it's likely that all of the cast would attend their funeral.
Another slightly off-beat theory surrounding the funeral pictures is that the person who died is Aidan's son, Wyatt. At the end of the last season, Aidan put his and Carrie's relationship on pause after she had just bought them a family home in New York so that he could focus on his role as a father. Wyatt broke several bones in an accident crashing his dad's truck while on drugs, and Aidan then told Carrie, 'The only thing that I love more than I love you is my boys. I made a commitment that I won't lose you again and I won't. Just gimme some time.'
However, it would be unusual for Carrie's friend Seema Patel, played by Sarita Choudhury, to attend Aidan's son's funeral. There is also a distinct lack of teenagers in the pictures and Aidan looks surprisingly happy, so it's not a theory we're putting any money on.
For now, all we have are high-res cast images and speculations. Perhaps it is a wedding after all. Unfortunately for fans, we'll have to wait until 2025 to find out...
