Alicia Vikander – the Swedish actress that lit up our screens playing Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl and who subsequently won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for it...

She's one of Hollywood's darlings, a veritable Disney Belle – as her canary yellow Louis Vuitton Oscar gown clearly indicated. She's been quietly and brilliantly enlivening our screens for some time now, though has largely remained out of the limelight.

Here we reveal all you need to know (so far) about the talented star:

Biography

Alicia was born in Gothenburg, Sweden on 3rd October 1988, and started her performing career at a young age. She starred in Kristina från Duvemåla (written by ABBA's Bjorn and Benny) at The Goteborg Opera when she was 7, and 9, started ballet training with the Svenska Balettskolan i Göteborg. She later danced for the Royal Swedish Ballet School in Stockholm and the School of American Ballet in New York.

Her first acting roles were for Swedish short films and TV series' – she made a name for herself in the TV drama, Andra Avenyn – but it was her first feature film, Pure, which really put her on the map. She went on to win the Rising Star Award in 2010 at the Stockholm Film Festival for it, and also the Shooting Star Award at the Berlin International Film Festival.

It was her part as Kitty in Joe Wright's Anna Karenina, however, that launched her into the international sphere.

Films

Alicia is proof that quality beats quantity in Tinseltown. Indeed, she had only appeared in a handful of films before the accolades came flooding in.

For instance, for her role in Testament Of Youth (2014) – the British independent film about the nurse, Vera Brittain – Alicia received a BAFTA nomination. The following year, she won a number of awards for her role as Ava in Ex Machina, as well as a BAFTA and Golden Globe nomination.

She was also lauded for Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E and John Well's Burnt

But as most will know, she hit the big time last month with her Oscar win for the film about transgender pioneer, Lile Elbe – The Danish Girl – in which she starred as Eddie Redmayne's onscreen wife.

Up next, she has the highly anticipated Jason Bourne to look forward to (in which we'll see also the return of Matt Damon – hurrah!), as well as The Light Between The Oceans (starring her boyfriend Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz – pronounced 'vice') and Tulip Fever, featuring Cara Delevingne.

Relationships

She been dating fellow actor Michael Fassbender for over a year now. Although the couple are renowned for their privacy and very little is known about their relationship.

So private are they, they even refused to kiss each other, in what was an ever-so-slightly cringeworthy moment on the BAFTA Kiss Cam earlier this year. So #awkward was it in fact, that it was cut out of the BBC's coverage entirely. Ouch!

But puckering up for the Royal Opera House (and by extension, the entire world) is not necessarily a true test of love. What is a true test is who you kiss when you win your Oscar, and in Vikander's case, it was Mr Fass (are we allowed that moniker?).

We shall sidle over the fact she forgot to (or didn't want to) mention him in her acceptance speech, because she kissed him all the same – and that's recognition enough in our books.

...And Louis Vuitton

Alicia is currently muse-of-the-minute for Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton's creative director and has featured in their AW15 advertising campaign.

In fact, check out this recently released video of her doing the twist for the brand:

She sat FROW for LV in their recent show in Paris, alongside other LV muse Jennifer Connelly – and no doubt will hit the red carpet in more of their creations in film premieres to come. Just check out her Jason Bourne promo wardrobe! L.O.V.E.
