After a line-up of Black players featured on Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow, Ofcom has received almost 200 racist complaints. Last Saturday, the gameshow welcomed six contestants to the show - a revival of Michael Barrymore’s Strike it Lucky - but, according to the watchdog's weekly report, some viewers 'objected to the ethnicity of the contestants'.

Though there were some horrific racist tweets made while the programme was on, many defended the line-up. As one viewer pointed out, it's unlikely the racists would complain about 'a lack of diversity' if all the contestants were white. 'Would anyone be bothered if all contestants on Alan Carr’s Gameshow was all white??? No!!!!,' one said. 'So what’s the problem if they're all black? About time Twitter stamped on racism once and for all.'

Another added: 'Knew Alan Carr’s Epic Game show would have the fragile white people up in arms that all the contestants are black (which I think is great btw!). Keep it up @itv. The more we normalise this, the more we can tackle racism head on.'

Last year, thousands of racist complaints were made to Ofcom following Diversity's routine on Britain's Got Talent, which was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Ofcom did not investigate the 20,000 complaints, and ITV released a statement in support of the group, following the racist backlash.

'Britain's Got Talent has always been an inclusive show, which showcases diversity and supports strong storytelling in all forms and ITV stands behind the decision to broadcast Diversity's performance on BGT,' they said. 'Ashley and the group are a great example of the talent, creativity and diversity of modern Britain and their performance was an authentic, heartfelt response to many of the issues and events which have affected society in 2020.' The incredible routine has now been nominated for this year's Must Watch moment at the BAFTAs, which you can vote for here.
