There’s no denying that Adwoa Aboah is the ‘It’ girl of the moment. Aged just 24, the freckle-faced model has graced the catwalk season after season for the likes of Versus Versace, Erdem and Simone Rocha.

Ever since landing her first editorial gig for i-D magazine back in 2009, Adwoa has strived to cement her status as the model of the moment. And with Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs campaigns under her belt, the 24-year-old has garnered well-deserved recognition from the fashion elite.

But despite the model seeming to 'have it all', Adwoa has battled with depression since the tender age of 14. And now, the model has opened up about her struggle and attempted suicide in a video for ‘Heads Together’ - the mental health charity spearheaded by Kate Middleton and Princes Harry and William.

In the emotional clip, Adwoa speaks candidly to her mum Camilla Lowther for the first time about her battle.

After struggling to fit in at boarding school, the model began self-medicating. After becoming addicted to Ketamine, an overdose led to a four-day coma back in 2015.

In the emotional video, Adwoa explains: “When you're that unhappy, it's scary, it's dark and horrible. I didn't know how to tell someone that I was depressed."

Her mum goes on to admit that she fell victim to the common misconception that you cannot be unhappy if you have a successful career.

She tells her daughter: “Look at you, look at you, you're beautiful, you’ve got a lovely life, an amazing house, everything is great. But that's probably one of the worst things about depression because there's nothing to physically see.”

But opening up about her emotions eventually enabled Adwoa to overcome her meantal health battle.

"I went to meetings and talked and talked and talked. Now I'm here and I'm happy, my life’s changed. So if that’s all I had to do, I couldn’t believe it was that simple," the model admits.

In late 2015, Adwoa launched 'Gurls Talk', a movement that strives to create a platform where girls can openly share their experiences and feelings in a safe and trusting environment.
