You Can Mention Adele Without Talking About Her Weight Loss

Adele isn't screaming at people to notice her weight loss, so why is it pointed out in headlines where it isn't relevant?

As one of the most loved popstars in the world, you can guarantee every time Adele posts a photo on social media, there will be a string of articles about it. Also, the singer doesn't post too often, so fans appreciate any update on what she might be up to.

And like most people across the country, yesterday Adele was supporting the England football team in the Euros final against Italy. After the match, she posted a sweet message congratulating the team's efforts, accompanied by a picture where she's smiling and wearing an England football shirt. 'You did us so proud! You brought our game home and brought us all together,' she wrote. (Adele couldn't be more right with her sentiments.)

And yet headlines decided to mention how she is 'showing off her weight loss'. Erm, sorry - but since when did wearing a football shirt mean you were shouting about losing weight?

Sadly, Adele's weight loss needlessly being mentioned in articles isn't a new occurrence.

Earlier this year, Adele was spotted at an Oscars afterparty. The singer was out celebrating Daniel Kaluuya'{ =nofollow}s well-deserved win, at a party which also reportedly had Drake on the guestlist. The singer can be seen in a video from the night, announcing that 'I’m the DJ, here we go' before putting on ‘I’m Real’ by Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule. And there was also a selfie which Adele appeared in, with Daniel's Judas and the Black Messiah co-star Amber Chardae. As you can see below, both looked incredible.

Again, in most of the reports that followed, people couldn't help but mention her '7 stone weight loss' . She looks 'slimmer than ever' according to one site, while another says she 'stuns' due to her weight loss, and another adds that she 'parades' her weight loss.

It happened again on her birthday in May, when she posted on Instagram showing herself looking happy and care-free - or 'thirty free', as she wrote - in three images. The response - mentioning her weight loss - was almost identical to the earlier examples.

And, so a reminder to everyone, you can mention what Adele is up to, without mentioning her weight loss.

She's just watching sport, enjoying a party or celebrating her birthday. She's hardly screaming at everyone to say she's lost weight. In fact, she has only briefly mentioned her weight loss last year - as a joke - on Saturday Night Live.

Her weight is not relevant at all, and yet, still Adele's weight loss is probably mentioned more than the fact she's one of the biggest-selling artists of the 21st century. These might be examples from the past six months, but ever since people noticed she lost weight in early 2020, many can't say Adele's name without adding 'weight loss' on the end.

As Grazia's own Jessica Barrett said on Twitter, Adele could probably do absolutely anything and it would be followed by just how much weight she's lost in a headline.

'Adele opens eyes in morning following seven stone weight loss.'she tweeted as an example. And regardless, nobody needs to lose weight to 'stun' or 'parade' their confidence. Or to simply exist.

Adele looked amazing before and after she lost weight, and her weight is her business. The constant commentary around it just reinforces the idea that, in order to be at your maximum levels of attractiveness, you must lose weight. Which hopefully we all know by now is simply not true.
