Adele gave a moving tribute to her hometown of London after a terrorist attack in the heart of the capital killed four people yesterday, with a further 29 victims undergoing treatment in hospital.

Speaking from a concert in Auckland, New Zealand last night, the 28-year-old singer told a crowd of thousands of fans: "Today there was a terror attack in my hometown of London.

"I'm literally on the other side of the world and I want them to see our lights and to hear us."

She went onto dedicate a rendition of her smash hit single Make You Feel My Love to those who died in the incident.

"It's very strange not being home, all I want to do today is be at home with my friends and family," she said.

"All of them are fine but there are four people who aren't fine so let's dedicate this to them tonight."

Fans at the stadium described on social media how they were "blown away" by her "beautiful" performance.

Three people died after a man armed with two knives crashed his car into crowds on Westminster Bridge yesterday afternoon, before charging the gates of the Houses of Parliament.

He stabbed a police officer who tried to stop him (and who later died from his injuries), before being shot dead by firarms police.

Forty people were injured in the attack. Seven people are described as being in a critical condition in hospital today.

The Met Police named the attacker as Kent-born Khalid Masood. He was known to security forces and is thought to have acted alone.

The so-called Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility to the attack, as Londoners vowed to stay strong, and shared messages of hope and solidarity.

Despite her meteoric success, Adele still describes herself "some random girl from London".

She was born and raised in Tottenham in Haringey, to the north of the capital.

"I'm not sure if I'll ever not feel a bit overwhelmed when I go to places where there are loads of stars," she once told Rolling Stone.

"I always feel like I'm gonna get thrown out. Or it's going to turn out to be some, like, hidden-camera show. Like someone's gonna send me back to Tottenham."

She is currently on the final leg of her sellout Adele’s Live 2017 tour in Australia and New Zeland, which has drawn record crowds.
