It looks like Adele has her sights set on Hollywood. Having already broken pretty much every music industry record imaginable, the Hello star is reportedly in talks to play Nancy in a forthcoming film adaptation of the musical classic Oliver!

This would mark the debut acting role for the singer, who already has an Oscar to her name, earning the gold statuette for Best Original Song for Bond theme Skyfall back in 2013.

‘It would be a major part for her and she’s seriously considering it,’ a source close to the singer told The Sun over the weekend, revealing that she feels she could balance the role with caring for her young son, four-year-old Angelo.

‘She’s talked about Angelo being her number one priority and she sees this as a role that he could appreciate too,’ the source added. ‘It would be a new challenge for her but one she would definitely be up for.’

West End legend Sir Cameron Mackintosh has teamed up with Working Title Films, the studio behind the 2013 version of Les Miserables, to bring Oliver! back to the big screen. The 1968 film adaptation of the musical, itself based on Charles Dickens’ novel, is widely considered to be a classic of the genre (not to mention a staple of the Christmas TV schedule) meaning that a new version would have a lot to live up to.

Back in July, the singer hit the headlines when she was forced to cancel her final two shows at London’s Wembley Arena due to health problems, having over-strained her voice.

In a letter to fans posted on her social media accounts, the singer wrote ‘on medical advice I simply am unable to perform over the weekend. To say I’m heartbroken would be a complete understatement.’

She went on to reveal that she’d even considered miming in order to avoid disappointing her fans. ‘I’m so desperate to do them that I’ve even considered miming, just to be in front of you and be with you,’ she wrote. ‘But I’ve never done it and I cannot in a million years do that to you. It wouldn’t be the real me up there.’
