Adele is undoubtedly one of the best singers in the world right now, but according to a new interview with Harry Styles, that’s not her only major talent: she’s also perfected the art of throwing subtle shade through the medium of birthday presents.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw ahead of the release of his much-anticipated single 'Sign Of The Times', the former One Direction star revealed that his friend gave him a slightly pointed (and more than slightly hilarious) gift to mark his 21st year.
‘For my 21st she gave me one of her albums, 21, and said, “I did some pretty cool stuff when I was 21, good luck,”’ he revealed. ‘I was like, “Geez…”’ Throwing shade, or inspiring the next generation of Brit musicians? We like to think that Adele is doing a little of both here…
Harry was filled with praise for the singer, revealing that he’d spoken to her while working on his forthcoming solo album.
‘I’ve spoken to her a little bit, she knows one of the guys that I wrote [his album] with a lot,’ he said. ‘But I don’t think so much [in terms of] advice, I just like how she does stuff.’
‘I think she leads by example, she’s the biggest, she’s amazing, she’s the best so she should be the biggest. The thing with her is she’s a different thing, she’s just good at it. I like how she does everything, it looks very nice.’
Harry, who wrapped filming on Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming WWII thriller Dunkirk before finishing off his solo album, also revealed that his recent workload has impacted upon his romantic life.
‘I haven’t dated for ages – I’ve been too busy making a movie and my solo album,’ he said.
‘I started the album end of Feb last year for three weeks and had to stop for five months when I went to do a movie. I came back to it in July and finished writing it in December.’
