5 Reasons Rihanna Will Be Doing Glastonbury In 2016

Rihanna is coming back, having just announced a world tour for her upcoming album Anti. There’s two major reasons why it’s great news. Firstly it’s Rihanna, and her songs are banging and plenty of people will want to hear her actually sing them and strut about to them IRL.

Secondly, it’s not as if many people are going to hear the album on Tidal, where it’s going to stream a week before going on sale (no confirmation on whether Anti will feature on Spotify).

But there’s another major thing at play here – the fact Rihanna is pretty much all but confirmed to play Glastonbury.

Here’s how we just know

1. Between 22-26 June, the dates for Glastonbury, Rihanna has a three-day gap.

2. She’ll be very close to Glastonbury

Having played London’s Wembley Stadium on 24 June and then Glasgow on the 27th, she’ll definitely have time to helicopter over to Worthy Farm for a gig. This holds even if she does have a second London date scheduled.

3. The likelihood of Rihanna even needing to do a second London gig is super slim

She’s playing the 90,000 capacity Wembley instead of the 20,000 capacity O2. Which makes the need for a second date a whole lot less likely.

4. Emily Eavis, who co-organises Glastonbury, told The Guardian just yesterday:

‘We are about 80% of the way there already. We’re so lucky at the moment to have so many huge bands touring and wanting to play.’

5. She also said:

‘One of the headliners I shook hands on at this year’s festival, so that was the first confirmation of 2016. We are incredibly lucky to have such great headliners for next year, it couldn’t be any bigger.’

And when it comes to female pop stars, (if Glastonbury has three headliners at least one should really be a woman, right?) apart from Taylor Swift, who’s already half-committed to disappear next year, and Beyoncé, who’s already headlined the festival, who else is at the top there? Katy Perry? Or... Rihanna!

We’re excited about it, not least to hear which side of the Glastonbury/Glastonberry side of the fence Ri-Ri falls down on.
