Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland has taken out a restraining order against ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop, saying he physically abused her throughout the last four years of their five-year relationship.
The court documents list a litany of instances when Matt was abusive towards Sarah, including one time in May when he pinned her against a car, repeatedly called her a c**t, and choked her to the point where she couldn’t breathe. She said she feared for her life.
The pair first met during an audition for *High School Musical *and Sarah said she knew that she was in an abusive relationship. She confided in her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen about it and asked her to come to her house for support when she was breaking up with Matt, who freaked out and started screaming. He threw a lighter at her and Julie said she should get him out of the house.
After Sarah broke up with Matt, he sent her abusive texts non-stop, threatening her and her dog and saying he would kill himself. He went to rehab in August and when he was released she was advised to take out a restraining order against him. In fact, it was the director of the rehab facility who actually contacted her to tell her to take out the order based on Matt's attitude against her. How terrifying.
