Award season is here again, and The Golden Globes is kicking 2020 off with a bang. The annual celebration of achievement in film and television is the first major ceremony of the year, and promises some amazing moments. But what can we expect? Here's everything you need to know.

When And Where Does It Take Place?

This year's Golden Globes will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. Proceedings kick off at 8pm on Sunday, 5 January, meaning a 1am start for Brits wanting to follow along.

Who Is The Host?

Ricky Gervais, star of The Office, will return to host for the fifth time. He has been a controversial choice in the past, as he rarely holds back on criticising the stars sitting mere feet from the stage. Nevertheless, he couldn't resist, telling The Hollywood Reporter: 'As soon as NBC called and said, "Do you want to do it?" I thought, "Well, that's Christmas ruined because I've got to work." People think that I'd go out there and I'd get drunk and say off-the-cuff [things]. I don't. I write jokes.'

Who Will Present Awards?

The ceremony always attracts an incredible list of talent to present each award, and this year is no exception. This year, hosts will include Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johansson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Reese Witherspoon, Antonio Banderas, Rami Malek, Dakota Fanning, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Salma Hayek, Amy Poehler, Harvey Keitel, Pierce Brosnan, Tim Allen, Charlize Theron, Tiffany Haddish, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, Octavia Spencer, Sofia Vergara, Kerry Washington, Ted Danson, Daniel Craig, Glenn Close, Ansel Elgort, Joe Jonas and Lauren Graham.

All will be practising their autocue technique, their name pronunciations and, of course, praying that they won't have a mix-up of La La Land/Moonlight proportions.

Who Is The Golden Globe Ambassador?

Every year, The Golden Globes recruits the child (or children) of a famous actor to be the ceremony's ambassador. Formerly known as Miss or Mr Golden Globe, the title was changed in 2017. Previous ambassador's include Laura Dern (1982), Dakota Johnson (2006) and Idris Elba's daughter Isan Elba last year.

This year Dylan and Paris Brosnan, sons of Pierce Brosnan, do the honours.

Who is nominated?

Who isn't? Nominees include Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt - who will both be in attendance - Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver. It's also a good year for Brits. Olivia Colman, Jodie Comer, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Daniel Craig are all up for awards.
