Maisie Williams has fast become a household name. And not just for being a totally brilliant actress in one of the worlds most watched TV series. Oh no. Also because she is generally a wonderful human being who we would very much like to be best friends with. Please?
Let’s recap why she’s so great, shall we?
1. She plays Arya Stark on Game of Thrones star. NBD
Well it’d be silly not to start with the show that catapulted her to superstardom, wouldn’t it? Fun fact: Maisie auditioned for the role almost six years ago when she was just 12 years old, and originally she just wanted to earn enough money to buy a new laptop. We feel ya Mais.
2. There was also that casual stint on Doctor Who
After playing Ashildr in series nine of Doctor Who, Maisie sadly confirmed earlier this year that she won’t be returning to the show. But on the upside, one of the reasons she’s not going to be doing so (despite how great it would be to see her as the first female doctor), is that she’s busy with other projects, which is still very exciting.
3. Speaking of other projects, iMDb says there’s a few coming up
According to everyone’s go-to film-person information hub iMDb there are four new films that Maisie is apparently staring in – A Storm in the Stars, iBoy, Arrivals and The Forest of Hands and Teeth. She’s also rumoured to be featuring in the new X-Men film which would quite obviously be amazing. Fingers cross there’s truth to speculation.
4. When she raised some good points about feminism
'You are either a normal person or a sexist'. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly a little while ago, Maisie explained that when she first heard the word 'feminist' she assumed it was just, well, everyone as opposed to a label. She said she felt that 'we should stop calling feminists "feminists" and just start calling people who aren’t feminist "sexist"'. Food for important thought, right?
5. ICYMI, she totally has her own YouTube channel
There only seems to be four videos there at the moment but as you can imagine they’re pretty funny and have gathered more than three million of views between them. It all seemed to fizzle out about six months ago which is a shame, but I guess the whole ‘leave ‘em wanting more’ trick is working because we definitely want to see more.
6. Her Instagram game is pretty strong
9. She reaaally made us want to try the blue hair thing
10. She and her ‘sister’ got matching tattoos
Okay not her real sister, but her on screen sister, which is pretty much the same thing. She and Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner got the date 07.08.09 tattooedto commemorate the day each of them found out that they had got parts in Game of Thrones. And I bet it’s taking a whole lot of people a huge amount of restraint not to go out and get the same tattoo.
11. And to top it all off she can dance
Let’s just take a moment to appreciate her performance in this flashmob on the streets of Bath with members of her dance school. Sure it’s not very busy and borderlines awkward at moments. But it’s still a bloody fantastic piece of footage that will be treasured for years to come.
